Welcome back - Spring 1
We hope you and your families enjoyed a restful Christmas break and we would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting Spring 1 half term ahead.
Our new school value for this half term is love, and we will be encouraging the children to demonstrate this through kindness, respect and care for one another. We are very proud of all the children’s achievements so far and can’t wait to see the progress they make as the year continues.
We are also thrilled to have a school trip planned to Ordsall Hall on 15th January, which links closely to our new history topic on the Tudors and will help bring the children’s learning to life.
Please see below for this half term’s curriculum information. Don’t forget that our Instagram page is updated regularly, where you can see lots of the learning and experiences taking place in school. If you need to contact us, please email info@stjohnsrc.net.

Key Information
PE - Tuesday and Day TBC
This term the children will need their PE kit in school on a Tuesday. Unfortunately, the second day for this is TBC and will be communicated ASAP. The children are still to come into school in full school uniform and get changed into their PE kits on their PE days. Please bring full PE kits into school on these days.
Reading Books
We encourage children to read for at least 30 minutes every day. We would appreciate your support in helping them to find some time every day to enjoy a book.
Some children will be given a banded reading book and all have a 'reading for pleasure' book to take home. Children should bring their reading book in every day as there will be opportunities for reading throughout the day. Their reading books will be changed every Monday if needed.
Homework
Please login into Atom Prime each week: https://atomlearning.com/prime
English and maths will be added every Wednesday.

Spellings
Children will be taught spellings through a new scheme called 'ELS' where workbooks are used regularly. Their lessons include activities and quizzes throughout the week.
Children will not have a formal-style spelling test each week as they will be assessed in other ways (e.g. dictation, quizzes, independent application).
