At our school, the Sacramental Programme is one of the most important expressions of our partnership with the parish. Together, we support our children as they grow in faith and prepare to receive the sacraments for the first time.

Each year, the majority of our children in Year 3 celebrate two very special moments in their faith journey:

  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation

  • The Sacrament of First Holy Communion

This preparation is a shared mission between school staff and the parish catechists, who work closely together to guide and accompany the children. Families also play a key role. Over the course of the year, parents are invited to attend three parish meetings, where they learn more about helping their children grow in faith and the children continue their “Heart Speaks to Heart” journey.

The celebration of First Holy Communion is always a beautiful and joyful day. Families gather with the parish community to celebrate their children receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME 2026-2027

We are delighted to begin this year’s Sacramental Programme with our Year 3 children and their families.

Preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a very special part of the children’s faith journey. Preparation will take place in school, at home and with St John’s Parish, and we warmly encourage families to support their children by attending Mass regularly and sharing in their preparation throughout the year.

MASS AT ST. JOHN'S CHURCH

Families are warmly invited to join our parish community for Mass:

Saturday: 6.00pm
Sunday: 9.00am and 12 noon

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD AT HOME

Families can find useful resources to support children with their Sacramental preparation through the Diocese of Salford – First Communion and Diocese of Leeds – First Sacraments resources.

Sacramental Book

As part of the programme, children will use Heart Speaks to Heart in class. This is an important resource that will support their learning and preparation throughout the year.

The book costs £8, with payment available through SchoolsBuddy – Bookings. At the end of the school year, the book will be sent home with your child.

If you are currently unable to make the payment, please contact the school office in confidence.

TAKING PART IN THE PROGRAMME

If you do not wish your child to receive the Sacraments this year, please complete the form provided by school by 25 September 2026

If your child doesn't attend St. John's but you would like them to make their First Holy Communion in the parish, please email Mrs Joyce on info@stjohnsrc.net.
