Adverse Weather Plan
SCHOOL’S CONTINGENCY PLAN - 2025
It is, of course, our intention that the school will remain open, closing only in the most extreme of circumstances having taken advice from the Local Authority.
Our first priority will always be to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils, staff, parents and families.
Where practical, we will consider opening later in order to enable staff and children to have additional time to travel to school safely.
We will clear paths within school to make access as safe as possible, and will keep supplies of grit to support this.
SCHOOL CLOSURE
The reasons for school closure are;
1. Insufficient staff being able to access school resulting in low levels of supervision.
2. Conditions on site are dangerous. There's risk of injury or parts of the school are inaccessible because conditions around the school are too severe, despite safety measures being in place
3. Boiler, heating or kitchen issues.
4. Conditions are considered to be (or are anticipated to later become) too hazardous for travel.
Once the decision to close school has been taken by the Headteacher and Chair of Governors, parents and staff will be informed via Schoolsbuddy. A message will be posted on Instagram, Facebook and on the school website.
In addition, the Headteacher will contact BBC Radio Manchester at the earliest opportunity giving the required information so that the closure of our school can be broadcast.
Where possible, a member of staff will be in school to advise parents and families on arrival that the school is closed, and to answer telephone calls from concerned parents.
Parents will be informed annually of the procedure to be followed.
PARENTS
If there’s a warning of severe weather approaching, a notice to parents will be sent a note to inform them of the severe weather warning and how they’ll find out if the school is closed.
If the headteacher decides to close the school early, the office will contact parents and ask them to pick their child up as soon as possible. A skeleton staff will remain in school until all pupils have been collected.
Work will be provided through our remote learning platforms of Atom Prime, TT Rockstars or Oak Academy units. These will be communicated by 10am on the day the school is closed through a Schoolsbuddy message.
