Lunch and Milk
SCHOOL MEALS
At our school, we are proud to offer nutritionally balanced, high‑quality meals every day. Many of our children choose to have a hot school lunch because they know they’ll receive food that supports their health, learning, and wellbeing.
Our cook, Chad, and the wider kitchen team play a vital role in this. They know the children individually and work hard to make sure every pupil feels comfortable and supported in their food choices. Each day, the children are offered a choice of meals, enabling them to enjoy food they like while still trying new dishes in a welcoming environment.
Parents and carers can book their child’s meals each week through the SchoolGrid system, making menu selection simple and flexible.
Meals for children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are provided free of charge through the Government’s Universal Free School Meal scheme, ensuring that every child in these year groups has access to a healthy daily lunch.
School meals for older children can be booked — and, where applicable, paid for — via SchoolGrid: https://schoolgrid.co.uk/

SNACKS
We have a healthy eating policy at St John’s.
Children learn about the effects of eating and drinking on the body and especially the brain and learning.
We encourage all children to bring in a water bottle to school and all children have access to drinking water all day.
Children are only allowed to bring fruit and breadsticks into school for break times. Crisps, sweets, chocolate and biscuits are not allowed.
At morning break the children in Foundation and KS1 are provided with a healthy fruit snack. KS2 are allowed to bring their own snack in each day.
Children may bring in packed lunches. We ask that parents provide packed lunches which are nutritionally balanced. They must not contain sweets or fizzy drinks.
We are a nut free school so please don't include nut of any kind in packed lunches or snacks.
