Our aim is to support each and every child to achieve their maximum potential in all areas. To ensure this happens, children may need some additional help and support in some areas. If you think your child may have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability, or just needs an extra bit of help, then the information on this page should help you understand who can help and how this support can be accessed.

You may also wish to read our SEND Policy and our 'Information Booklet for Parents and Carers'.

We aim to always be an inclusive school. We value each and every child in our St John’s community.

DEFINITION OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL PROVISION

The SEND Code of Practice 2015 states:

A child or young person has SEND if he/she has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him/her.

  • A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he /she:

  1. Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or

  2. Has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROVISION IS;

'... education or training provision that is additional to or different from that normally available to pupils or students of the same age, which is designed to help children and young people with SEN or disabilities to access the National Curriculum at school or college.'
