St John’sRC Primary School

Growing and learning together in the footsteps of Jesus.

Hello! My name is Juliette Tomlinson and I have been the Chair of St John’s RC Primary School PTA for the last 3 years. With your help, support, ideas and involvement we raise funds together for all sorts of aspects of school life, including Christmas Pantos and Grotto, improvements to the school grounds, equipment, books, golden jumpers, Year 6 Leavers books, - a mixture of necessities and fun treats that make your child’s time at St John’s truly memorable and happy.

As a parent, you are already a member of our PTA. There is no joining process, no special membership, no closed doors. We have a committee and class reps to make sure our activities and communications run smoothly, but beyond that the PTA is very fluid. You can give as much or as little time as you want or are able-and whenever it suits you-, and please be assured that you will never be tied into anything further unless you want to be. It really does make a huge difference if you can lend a hand even for half an hour, at just one event a year.

We run a full events calendar that children, parents and family can enjoy, including Coffee Mornings, Quiz Night, St Patrick’s celebration, Summer Ball, Spooky Disco, Carols by Candlelight, Picnic in the Park and many more. Lots of helping hands are needed to support these occasions, and it really does make a huge difference if you can lend a hand even for half an hour, at just one event a year.

How do I get involved?

There are a few levels of engagement and hopefully there is one to suit you.

  1. Come and support the PTA events and meetings when you can.
  2. Get involved in an event; offers of help for half an hour either during, before (set up) or after (clear up) are always needed. Half an hour at a stall or raffle gives someone else a break and would be hugely appreciated.
  3. We have PTA meetings every month (on and off school premises) which are advertised through school updates, the blackboards outside school and the class WhatsApp groups. It is really hard for lots of people to make them but if you can attend the odd one please know how welcome you would be.
  4. Help us organise the bigger events that need planning, ideas, and organisation. If there is an event you could be involved with please let us know. We also need ideas!
  5. Be a Class Rep or part of The Committee. These roles are available each school year from Nov/Dec, when our AGM takes place.
  6. As a parent of a St John’s pupil, you are already a member of the PTA- there is no special sign up or formal joining-in process. You will be made very welcome.
